Pilates is an exercise method which builds core strength and stability along with flexibility and endurance. Muscle control and stability grow through proper posture and patterns of movement, balancing flexibility and strength.
Pilates can still the mind and enhance your breathing and it uses your body’s internal resistance in an extremely powerful way.
Although many serious athletes and professional dancers use Pilates, most people (even those with limited fitness) can benefit from its methods and techniques. It can also be helpful in training for sports or in physical rehabilitation.
Classes are held online via Zoom and in person, subject to Covid-19 protocols.
Class duration: 50 minutes.

Hi, I’m Alex Zehmke, a qualified group and personal trainer, accredited barre Pilates trainer, currently completing my comprehensive mat Pilates course through BASI.
I opened my studio in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth just as Covid-19 arrived but I’ve always loved fitness, going back to my school days when I represented Eastern Province in various sports. I represented South Africa in aerobics sport and won the World Amateur Championships in 1996 and 1998 while studying at PE Technikon.
I’ve become increasingly aware of the need for a holistic approach to health and fitness and find Pilates wonderful to help strengthen, condition and tone the body. It’s suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, from beginner to advanced, and from young to old. Please join me on my journey!
